DANCING ON MY OWN

I haven't done an inspiration post for a long time, so I figured perhaps I should.

I'm not sure what this spring is about for me, as far as fashion goes, but I know what I like when I see it. I like florals, but not an overload of the. I like shorts and skirts, especially when you haven't got to wear tights (!) because it's actually not freezing out. I also like jumper, playsuit-type garments, and dresses. But all that's fairly vague, I think I'm just going to go with it and we'll see what this spring brings, haha!

Here is a little collection of photos that I find particularly inspiring lately.

I just completely love these photos of Kastyn Reid by Pamela Hanson, just completely adore them.

I couldn't find credit for the two above, but I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) the one directly above is of Peaches Geldof for NYLON. I think, don't hold me to it, though, haha.

And finally, Duffy looking lovely in some very classic looking pieces!

REMEMBER WHO YOU'RE FIGHTING FOR

Here's what I wore a couple of days ago. I wasn't particularly feeling it when I took these, but I wanted some new photos to post, so I tried to look as interested as possible, haha. I remember when I used to post photos of some sort nearly everyday, I can't imagine how I kept it up! Also, not the most creative outfit, probably due to laziness, busy-ness, and just, well, I like the look.

Black tights, high waist denim shorts, and red lips are my staples lately!

I bought the shorts two years ago at a Victoria Salvation Army, the shirt is from a Victoria thrift shop, also.
The tights are plain old Secret brand black tights, and the heels are from Suzy! x

FAQ

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Since I tend to get asked the same questions several times, I decided I'd write up a short FAQ post with some of the ones I get asked most often!

Basics

How old are you?
I'm seventeen, my birthday is the 2nd of October.

Where are you from?
Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

How tall are you?
I am 5-foot-5.

Fashion & Beauty

What sort of eyeliner do you use?
MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack.

What is the red lipstick you wear?
Rimmel London's Moisture Renew Lipstick in Coral Queen.

How would you describe your style?
Classic, and a bit feminine, but not overly so.

What is your favourite clothing item you own?
I don't have one specific favourite, I like too many of my clothes to pick one thing!

How much money do you spend on clothes?
Not a lot, truthfully. I love thrift shopping, and the vast majority of my clothes are fairly inexpensive items.

Do you wear extensions?
No, all my hair is my own natural hair.

How do you get your hair wavy/curly?
It's naturally curly, so usually I wash, blow dry, and then put it into a messy bun and when I let it down a few hours later, boom, some nice waves!

What is your skin care routine?
In the mornings, I wash my face with Phisoderm cleanser, and apply Alba Botanica aloe face cream before I put my makeup on. At nights, I wash my face with Proactiv cleanser, and apply Proactiv astringent all over my face with a cotton ball. That's basically it, job done!

What sort of foundation do you use?
Revlon's ColourStay Liquid Foundation in 110.

Blog & Photography

What other blogs do you read?
I read quite a few occasionally, but I read Shelley Mulshine's blog, Rosa's blog, and Cosette's blog quite often. All three are very lovely and inspiring!

What sort of camera do you use?
My camera is a Canon EOS 40D, I've had it for nearly three years now. The lens I use most often is a Canon EF-S 18-55mm.

Do you edit your photos? If so, what programme do you use?
I normally touch up the lighting and colouring a little, but nothing extreme. I use Adobe Photoshop CS2 for all my editing.

How long have you had your blog?
Since the end of August 2009. But I've been posting on Chictopia since December 2008, and Lookbook since July 2009.

The above photos are from a week or so ago, but at the moment, I'm sat in the exact same place as I was when I took them, haha.

PARIS BLUE

I was going through junk in our attic this afternoon and found a box with all my goofy wigs in it. Naturally, I just had to haul one out and try it on, then ended up leaving it on for a good half hour or so.

I'd tried on a little blonde bob wig, too, but this white one is definitely my favourite of the little collection I have from ages ago when I did all kinds of silly photoshoots. Reminds me a bit of when Julian Assange had longer white hair, right, haha.

You can't really see it in these pictures but when I took it off my fringe had gone all strange, haha.

2009

I was looking through my old pictures from a few years ago and found a couple of my first actual outfit photos.

These were two of the first photos I ever posted on Chictopia, and are a pretty good example of how I dressed two years ago.

It's pretty safe to say I've changed my style quite a lot since then, and how I dress and look now feels plenty more true to myself.

These days I prefer high waist shorts, black tights, big hair, loose fitting dresses, super high shoes, and a nice red lip. In opposition to back then when it was all about pencil skirts, lumberjack shirts, bright tights, flats, shoddily backcombed hair, and lots of junk jewellery, haha.

NOTHING YOU'VE NOT SEEN BEFORE

This is what I wore yesterday. This also is how I look most days recently. Been dressing practically, casually, and just generally howevah I want, hah.

As this post's title says, it's nothing you haven't seen before. Wearing my plain black sleeveless shirt, high waist shorts, and back seam black transparent tights. Paired with my old leopard heels, just so it's not entirely boring, of course!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

My dresser is a mess, but on the bright side, I especially like my hair in this particular photo above.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Don't mind the stuff on the floor, either. I do really need to get to tidying up, Jesus.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

This picture clearly gives away what I was watching that morning, and what I genuinely watch most of the time. Have to keep up with what's happening the world, I do. CBC ALWAYS AND FOREVER, haters hate.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

And then there's the guy on TV doing a weather forecast, which is more or less usually "Snow, snow, snow, and then rain and 10 degrees for you guys on the west coast" followed by a glare. I'm only kidding, about the glare that is, the weather though, we really are just that lucky.

But I still think it's too cold.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Because it still is too cold, but whatever.

I've been lazing round the past few days, taking care of some excess coursework over spring break. I'd prefer to have a light work load then an entire week off, I wouldn't know what to do with myself. I can't be idle, it's truly one of the worst things for me, I need to have things to do.

And as I always try to, I've been keeping up with the news, and we may be (read: most likely are, won't be decided till Friday) having an election this spring in Canada. Now, I can't vote for another few months, but it's still properly exciting to political obsessives such as myself. Haha, well, this should be interesting if nothing else.

FLORAL PLATFORMS

Look at what arrived in the post a couple of days ago!

I'd been looking at them for a while, and to my surprise my mum bought them for me, which was so, so truly nice of her! They're from Forever 21's spring 2011 line, and they're just absolutely lovely.

As if I really needed another pair of shoes, haha, but these are just so different, a bit quirky, and perfect for this spring. Now we just need some nice weather and we'll be all set!

DON'T COME BACK ANYTIME

Hello to everyone on this Sunday afternoon! I hope you're all having a nice weekend.

These are a few photos from the past week. I don't look quite like myself in these, I don't think I do, anyhow, haha.

Now, I don't usually write about these sorts of things, although I think about them a lot everyday, such as the situations in Japan and Libya.

Japan has faced disaster after disaster in the past week. A massive earthquake, a tsunami, a volcano eruption, and the ongoing nuclear plant fallout. Any one of those disasters is enough to be crippling, all four happening within the course of a few days is genuinely devastating.

This is why we need to keep the people in Japan in our thoughts and hearts, and if you're able to, donate what you can to the Red Cross, Global Giving, Doctors Without Borders, or any other reputable organisation (I say reputable because of the many scam organisations that pop up every time something like this happens).

But not only Japan is going through a time which will undoubtedly shape their future, but Libya, also. A country that you may have heard near nothing about, until last month, that is. Since yesterday, French military planes have begun patrolling over Libya. Soon British, Canadian, and American military will join them, joining the coalition of countries that are attempting to enforce a no fly zone that the UN ordered be placed on Libya.

Now, I don't favour war fare, or violence of any sort, but it seems that all other attempts in trying to have him step down or removed have failed, and a man who would rather murder thousands of his country's people than leave his position is not a man that should have any sort of power. It's a controversial move for the international community to intervene, but would it be worse for the world to ignore the crimes Gaddafi's regime is committing against its own people, I'm not sure, but I'm not entirely against international intervention at this point. We should keep the people of Libya in our minds and hearts and hope for a peaceful outcome, and hope that said outcome doesn't take a very long time to come.

I'M NO FOOL, I'M JUST UPSIDE DOWN

Here are the photos from the little photoshoot I'd mentioned here a week or so ago.
I was sort of inspired by Pixie Lott in this photoshoot! On the record, I'm half-English. xo

Upside Down - Paloma Faith

14 March 2011

VALUES OF DECEPTION

Hello everyone!

Happy Monday after the North American Daylight Savings, or not. Yesterday I woke at quarter to six, which really felt like quarter to five, because our cats were making a racket! Annoying, haha.

Have I said I sort of love Paloma Faith? I just discovered her music a couple of weeks ago, and I love her. It's so upbeat and fun. I guess I'm a sucker for that sort of music. Then again, I love a good range of genres, I'm not about to say "Oh my gosh, I, like, listen to everything. Everything." but I do have a pretty wide variety of likes when it comes to music.

Here are a few pictures from last week! xo

PRETTY PLEASE

Hello everyone!

I really want to start posting more and am going to try to do more writing on my blog, not less pictures, just a bit more commentary with them, I think. I also need to figure out just a couple more things for my new photoshoot and then I'll be able to do it, but until then, but until then, here are a few pictures from last week!

I wear that bodysuit so much. It was definitely worth the $15 that I bought it for last spring, haha.
